Dene McAllan wins Polar Ice sponsored Qld. Midget Title.
Last Saturday Night it was Trick & Treat for Dene McAllan as he took the honours winning the Qld. Midget Title at Maryborough Speedway. Driving the #92 Polar Ice Stealth/Esslinger combination, Dene drove a patient race to take the lead ten laps from home. What made it even sweeter was that Dene's car owner Jack Berry owner of Polar Ice sponsored the event which made it even more special.
Approx twenty five cars made the trip to Maryborough for the nights racing. The format for the Title started by drawing a marble which locked your position in for the first heat which then was inverted for the second heat. The top eight point scorers after the two rounds of heats battled it out in a pole shuffle where the finishing positions determined starting positions for the "A" Main.
Dene drew marble six & started sixth in his first heat finishing a fast second just missing out taking first place. His next heat he started pole where he was never headed, placing him second in points overall for the Pole Shuffle. In the Pole Shuffle Dene beat Sid Whittaker for second position but lost out to Brock Dean for Pole position for the Feature race.
With a racecar set up for the end of the race, Dene struggled in the early stages of the "A" Main to stay with Brock Dean but patiently waited his time not letting Brock out of his sight & sure enough within ten laps to go caught & passed Brock where Dene was never headed again to win by a comfortable margin to the applause of the large contingent of supporters in the stands.
The teams next race meeting will be this weekend as Dene defends his crown for the Figs race at Perth's Motorplex. |
